# DVx Signal — AI at Work 004 — Your spreadsheet became an app. Grok became a teammate.

> Sheets canvas can become a working mini-app, Grok can build prototypes or keep a cross-app teammate running, and Meet can take notes in a physical room.

The useful version

## Three changes you can use without learning the infrastructure

A spreadsheet can become a working mini-app. Grok can publish a prototype from a prompt or keep an AI teammate working after you close your laptop. Google Meet can take notes in a physical room.

First decide whether you are viewing source data, publishing something new, delegating recurring work, or recording people in a room.

01

Spreadsheets

## Google Sheets can become a read-write mini-app

![A spreadsheet becomes an interactive dashboard with two-way changes between source cells and the canvas.](https://blog.dvx.ventures/signals/at-work/004/covers/sheets-canvas.svg)

*DVx workflow map based on Google’s August 13 Sheets canvas announcement.*

- **What it does** — Sheets canvas builds an interactive dashboard, tracker, or operating screen over a spreadsheet. Changes write back in both directions.
- **Who gets it / what it costs** — It is rolling out on the web to listed Workspace and Google AI plans. English account language and Gemini in Sheets are required. No separate price or exact limit is public.
- **Your move** — Start with a copy. Change one canvas value and confirm the source cell.

The writeback check

### The canvas is an interface, not a detached picture

A visually useful screen can still change the source of truth.

- **Source** — Use a copied or non-production sheet for the first test.
- **Writeback** — Change one value and identify the exact source cell.
- **Sharing** — Check whether canvas access follows the intended sheet access.
- **Rollback** — Undo the change and confirm the source recovers.

**The decision:** keep the canvas only if it makes a recurring decision faster without hiding writeback.

Primary source: Google Workspace. Verified August 23, 2026. Web and English account language only. Exact per-user limits were not disclosed.

Build or delegate

## Grok now has a builder and a persistent teammate

![Grok Build produces a standalone app while Grok Bot operates as a persistent teammate across apps.](https://blog.dvx.ventures/signals/at-work/004/covers/grok-build-bot.svg)

*DVx product map based on xAI’s Grok Build and Grok Bot announcements.*

- **What it does** — Grok Build creates and publishes an app, game, website, or dashboard. Grok Bot is different. It is a named AI teammate with a persistent cloud computer, browser, terminal, app sessions, memory, and routines. Bots can coordinate and keep working when your device is closed.
- **Who gets it / what it costs** — Build is on every Grok plan, including Free. Bot is included with SuperGrok Plus and Heavy, Cursor Pro+ and Ultra, and Cursor Teams. Individual access starts at $60 a month through Cursor Pro+ or $100 through SuperGrok Plus. Usage resets weekly, with on-demand billing where eligible.
- **Your move** — Give one Bot a read-only job with invented data. Require approval for sending, publishing, deleting, purchasing, or changing systems. Sign out and remove its files after the test.

Which tool should you open?

### Match the product to the artifact

- **Sheets canvas** — Make an existing spreadsheet easier to use. The sheet and canvas persist.
- **Grok Build** — Publish a standalone app, site, game, or dashboard. The project and live link persist.
- **Grok Bot** — Delegate recurring work across apps. The shared computer, files, sessions, memory, and routines persist.
- **Bot boundary** — Every Bot owned by one user shares the same computer and logins.

**The decision:** Build publishes an artifact. Bot operates a workflow.

Primary sources: xAI and Cursor. Verified August 23, 2026. Grok Bot’s August 11 launch was missed in Issue 003. The August 21 access expansion falls after this issue’s core research window.

Meetings

## Google Meet can take notes in a physical room

![A phone captures an in-person meeting and saves audio, transcript, summary, and actions to a Google Doc.](https://blog.dvx.ventures/signals/at-work/004/covers/meet-in-person-notes.svg)

*DVx capture map based on Google’s August 13 in-person meeting announcement.*

- **What it does** — Take notes for me captures a physical meeting without a video call. It saves audio, transcript, summary, and actions to a Google Doc.
- **Who gets it / what it costs** — Android rollout started August 11, web no sooner than August 14, and iOS no sooner than August 31. Listed Workspace and Google AI plans include it. Google announced no separate price.
- **Your move** — In a low-risk meeting, announce capture, confirm consent, then check the saved Doc and access list.

Capture to retention

### The room now has the same record questions as a call

- **Before** — Name the purpose, attendees, and retention rule.
- **During** — Announce that audio and AI notes are active.
- **After** — Check names, decisions, actions, access, and deletion date.
- **Limits** — One language at a time. Required consent is off by default.

**The decision:** do not treat a phone on the table as an informal note-taking surface.

Primary sources: Google Workspace and Google Meet Help. Verified August 23, 2026. Notes follow the organization’s Meet retention policy.

Model and market check

## No consumer subscription switch this week

Gemini 3.7 Flash launched with an API rate that doubles January 1. Grok 4.6 entered GitHub Copilot. Neither warrants a consumer subscription change. Copilot users should compare one task before changing defaults.

Before you upgrade

## Three questions before the checkout screen

1. **Access** Is it already in your plan?
2. **Allowance** Is the limit public?
3. **Boundary** Will it edit data, publish a link, record a room, or keep working across apps?

15-minute no-code try

## Test a Bot before you connect an app

1. **Attach** Use one safe document.
2. **Ask** Request five bullets, every date, and every decision.
3. **Check** Verify each source reference and the usage record.
4. **Delete** Remove the test data from the cloud computer.

Term without the jargon

## Persistent cloud computer

A remote computer that keeps its files, sessions, and state between tasks, even when your own device is closed.

What this edition skipped

Workspace Studio identities, API pricing, ZDR, and Codex GitLab belong in the [Builder edition →](https://blog.dvx.ventures/signals/agent-desktop-became-persistent). ChatGPT project memory was scanned but displaced by the more consequential Grok Bot launch.

## Price and availability ledger

**Verification notes**

- Core research covered August 13 through August 19. Selected links were checked August 23.
- Announcement, rollout, availability, and scheduled-price dates are separate.
- Sheets canvas can alter source cells. The first test uses copied data.
- Grok Build is available on Free, but xAI does not call the allowance unlimited.
- Grok Bot launched August 11 and was missed in Issue 003. Its August 21 access expansion is outside the core window.
- All Bots owned by one user share a single computer, sessions, and logins. Separate Bots are not security boundaries.
- In-person notes include audio capture. Notice, consent, access, and retention are part of the recommended test.
- No confidential portfolio information is included. The published copy contains no em dashes.
