The useful version

This was a provenance and workflow week

Claude changed the publishing question. Supported models launched on or after August 2 can mark text and files. Google moved visual creation into Docs and let Meet admins require consent before AI notes begin. ChatGPT Library remains useful, but this was not a ChatGPT week.

Claude-assisted text can carry an invisible mark

A supported Claude model sends an invisible statistical mark with text and signed C2PA metadata with supported image files. A mark signals processing, not authorship.

DVx boundary diagram based on Anthropic's August 10 marking guide.

What it does

Anthropic published its plan on August 10. Supported models embed an imperceptible watermark in text that may survive copying and some editing. Supported SVG, PNG, and JPG files receive signed C2PA metadata.

Who gets it / what it costs

Claude models launched on or after August 2 support marking at launch. Marks apply worldwide across Claude products, the API, and supported cloud partners. Older models and public detection guidance are still in progress. There is no separate price.

Your move

Treat a mark as processing history, not an authorship verdict. Keep the source draft, fact check, named human editor, and disclosure decision. Never use a detector alone to reject someone's work.

Processing is not authorship

A detected mark is evidence with limits

Detected text mark
A supported Claude model may have processed the content.
Not conclusive
Claude may only have proofread, translated, summarized, or reformatted it.
Signal can fade
Heavy edits, translation, mixed writing, or a very short passage can defeat detection.
Files differ
Conversion, re-saving, or a screenshot can strip signed metadata.

The decision: retain an editorial record. A future detector cannot replace one.

Gemini can turn a Google Doc into its own visual brief

A Google Doc feeds its context into Gemini, which creates a diagram that is checked back against the source.

DVx workflow diagram based on Google's product announcement.

What it does

Gemini can create and edit images, diagrams, and infographics inside Google Docs using the document as context. You can change aspect ratio or style and update several visuals from the side panel. It works on the web.

Who gets it / what it costs

The July 28 rollout was still active during this window. It is included with listed Business, Enterprise, Education, and Google AI plans. Smart features and Gemini in Drive must be enabled.

Your move

Generate one diagram from a document you know. Check every label, number, and relationship. Keep it only if it simplifies the argument without inventing one.

Google Meet can require consent before AI notes begin

Meeting participants pass through an explicit consent gate before Gemini notes, recording, or transcription can begin.

DVx consent flow based on Google's documented admin and participant boundaries.

What it does

Admins can require each participant on a supported device to agree before Gemini notes, recording, or transcription starts. The control is off by default. End users cannot enable it themselves.

Who gets it / what it costs

The rollout resumed July 29 and was expected to finish August 12. Full consent scope is included on listed Business, Enterprise, Frontline, and education plans. Other plans receive a subset. Google announced no separate price.

Your move

Pilot it with an external participant. Save the consent screen and the host script as proof of the new meeting rule.

Two useful quick hits

Reusable files and one coding model

ChatGPT Library: You can reuse saved files without another upload on Free, Go, Plus, Pro, and Business. Storage runs from 500 MB on Free to 100 GB on Pro. Deleting a chat does not delete its saved file.

Model launch: Our verified source scan found no frontier general-purpose launch inside the window. Microsoft did release MAI-Code-1.1-Flash in Copilot on August 11. It adds image understanding and uses a 0.25x premium-request multiplier for annual subscribers. Business and Enterprise admins must enable it. Its predecessor retires September 10.

Term without the jargon

Provenance

Evidence about where content came from and what happened to it. A watermark or signed metadata can contribute to provenance. Neither proves who supplied the ideas, checked the facts, or accepted responsibility for the finished work.

What this edition skipped

Portable agent plugins, local Claude session transcripts, and Sonnet API pricing belong in the Builder edition →.

Verification notes
  • Research covered August 6 through August 12. Links were checked August 13.
  • Announcement, rollout, effective, and retirement dates are stated separately.
  • Anthropic says a mark indicates possible Claude processing, not conclusive authorship. Detection guidance has not yet been published.
  • The Gemini Docs announcement predates the window, but its gradual rollout was active during it.
  • The Meet announcement was older, but its resumed rollout was expected to complete on August 12.
  • Our verified source scan found no frontier general-purpose launch inside the window. Microsoft's coding model is labeled as a narrower Copilot release.
  • Restaurant availability remains a useful OpenAI quick hit, but it no longer displaces changes with broader work, governance, or publishing impact.
  • No confidential portfolio information is included. The published copy contains no em dashes.
